About
The Black BBQ Hall of Fame exists to recognize, honor, and document the legacies of Black people in barbecue.
This is important because Black contributions in barbecue have been systematically omitted from history books. We will provide official recognition and honor individuals who have served their communities and made a lasting impact on the world of barbecue.
Nomination in the Black BBQ Hall of Fame for the first inaugural class was determined by Dr. Howard Conyers.
Dr. Howard Conyers is an expert in Black BBQ culture, history, and methods. He grew up being taught pitcooked bbq on his family farm. Later, he founded Gumbo Jubilee, Conyers Family BBQ, and the Black BBQ Hall of Fame to promote, encourage, and uplift Black People in BBQ.
In addition to our inducted members, we uplift the names of the unknown contributors to bbq that toiled the pits all over the United States for centuries.
Our inductees represent barbecue excellence and we will insure they are remembered and appreciated.
Congratulations to all in inductees, present and in the future.
